The Grand DameNotre Dame, Paris, France

She stormed into the room, clearly cranky, imperious and really, just not happy at all. Indeed, she glowered.
Her minions mimicked her expression and her every move. The result was comical, though one dared not laugh. The nobleman looked up, terrified, and quivered.

The old man quietly stepped out of the room by a side door, closing it silently behind him. Best not to be in the crosshairs this day
Look Up in WonderSiena, Italy

OK, picture any one of a hundred movies where young-girl-meets-new-city.
(Or substitute young girl for boy, woman, man, you.)
He/she/you hits the streets for the first time, after dreaming of this moment for years and absolutely years!

You/she/he look up, burst into a brilliant smile and spins, giggling, round and round - watching the tall buildings whirl and spin like a merry-go-round.
You do this because it's fun.
You do this because your kid inside is over-the-moon thrilled and astounded and jump-up-and-down ecstatic to at long last be standing in a place you have dreamed of your. entire. life.

This is a still shot from that movie.
Age Old, New Day Firenze, Italy

It was hot, hot, HOT. (100° F)
The sun hurt.
The stones baked.
The tourists melted.
And yet... under any conditions, this city never fails to awe.
Time collapses here.
9 Stone AlleyLucca, Italy

She stood with the note in her hand, pondering her next move.
The address read: #9 Stone Alley, Lucca, Italy.
She knew he was already there, waiting for her. His bike outside, was waiting for him.
"There's no help for it now," she thought to herself.
"We're here. It's time. Let's do this."
And she did.
What's For Dinner? Paris StyleParis, France

Every course, a different shop - all on the same block.
Yummmm.
Caramel Nights in SienaSiena, Italy

The Duomo di Siena

I'm sure housing was expensive back in the day, just like it is now.
But when you consider there was a 9th century church with bishop's palace in this spot... and that the Duomo di Siena here was originally designed and completed between 1215 and 1263... you can't help thinking that at our current construction standards, housing prices really ought to top out at about a buck-fifty. Just sayin'.

The Remodel Had Gone Exceedingly WellCapitol Building, Salt Lake City, UT
She surveyed the foyer with delight.
It had taken 15 elves, 5 gnomes, 25 grifslenbachers and a small pot of essence of grace, but all in all, the castle's guest wing remodel had gone exceedingly well.

Yummy Nights in SienaSiena, Italy

I keep referring to strolling through Siena at night in food terms. It's because on a warm summer night, if just feels so delicious you could eat it up with a spoon!
