Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel
This arch - the smallest of three commissioned by Napoleon, was built in 1806 to commemorate his Austrian victories and honor his grand army. Just a little something.

But the place itself goes way back. The arch sits on the field between the Louvre Palace and the Tuileries Garden. Back in the 1600's, knights costumed in full regalia performed feats of horsemanship here, accompanied by music and song. Hence this spot's name: The Carrousel.

Now when you visit - you'll know a little history.

After walking all over Austin, TX... well let's face it, I was plumb tuckered out. (sleep?? Bah! Who needs it??) Sitting there, saggy but happy in the Austin airport, this shot just made me giggle.

I could sure have used me some Joseph's right about then
Heck, I'd even have paid a dime for it.
Cause when I looked in the mirror a minute ago, I think I saw this guy lookin' back at me.
Should I be worried?

Escape. Right.
To just where, exactly? On whose terms?
And who would be waiting?
She surmised that those who'd leapt before her, never to be seen or heard from again, didn't bother to question these small details.

Tabernacle at Temple SquareSalt Lake City, UT
Have you ever heard of the world famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir?
This is THAT tabernacle.
It was designed to be so acoustically sensitive that a pin dropped up there at the pulpit can be heard all the way in the back of the hall. And the pipe organ up front (with its 11,623 pipes) is quite huge... one of the largest in the world. Built in 1867, no less.

I just love being in places like this and learning stuff about who and why, when and how. Just wish I couldn't heard that pipe organ.
Sigh.
