Just Because
Because every year they remind me of rebirth and looking forward...
Because I love the perfection that is frozen and stamped on each and every one...
Because they are like the final act of a wonderful Kabuki theatre play...
Oh I dunno, just Because.

Grand Architecture
I love my wide open spaces shots, but I've always equally loved focusing in on a single, intimate moment.

Up close, a Golden Barrel Cactus reveals such grand architecture... such an intelligent creativity... that I've been marveling ever since. It's prickly and all... but whenever I gaze at this shot, it just calms me. I can just stare at the symmetry, the detail, the perfection of design for a looong time.

Sigh.
I Feel Fluffy, Oh So Fluffy
It's Sunday, and I'm in a fluffy mood. I've never thought of 'fluffy' as a mood before, but when I looked at this photo of mine today, I knew this was it.

Now if you tell me you're going to step out of the rat race for a minute; you know, just stop, have a look around, think about things and gain some perspective while the rest of the world rushes on by... I'll know you're feeling fluffy too.

It'll be our little secret. ;-))

Just Like Summer
Aaahhhhhh, imagine it's the weekend. Summer. The warm, soothing, wavy couple of days where the moments can flow organically, one after the other. No deadlines, just the 'whaddya want to do now?' deal. And breeeeeaathe.

Got plans?

Unconventional

I don't know what her name is, and she certainly isn't what we think of as a 'conventional' flower... but I think most of us can relate to that last part, yes? I met her in 2004 on the island of Maui, and I remember the meeting like it was yesterday. I so admired her colors, her symmetrical mauvey lines - and she just seemed so serene. She didn't nod or pose as many flowers do... she simply... was.

And still is.
I aspire to that, in the finest sense.

Hellllooooo!

Her neck was so long, it was longest you see
of her whole patch of garden, her whole fam-damily
As she looked up and saw me, she craned up so high…
Just like an accordion, and swooped in to say "Hi!"
"Well aren't you lovely, Miss Lupin la Rue!
May I capture your visage, record it for you?"
"Yes please, I would love that!"
she said, as she posed
With a flowerlike smile and great big "Helllooooo!"

Carmen Protea
A Pincushion Protea is not a subtle flower. Neither is this image. Subtle is lovely, but there are times when only a little Carmen Miranda will do.
I've never actually quoted Ms. Miranda before now, but this particular moment and image seems to call for it:

"I have never followed what people say it is 'fashionable'. I think that a woman must wear what fits her. That is why I created a style appropriate to my type and my artistical genre".

Word up, Carmen Protea!
