It fluttered to her feet and landed facing forward.
On the tracks.
In the direction she was moving.
She smiled.
And took it as a sign to stick with the plan.
The Courtyard of San Gimignano San Gimignano, Italy

August. A boiling hot day. Boiling. About a thousand degrees, I believe it was.
The only time available to me was midday. Heinous shooting conditions.
Tourists in their too-tight, too-short shorts EVERwhere! Ack.
And yet... the courtyard cleared at one point. Snippity-snap-snap!
It looked like a movie set. Yet hundreds of years ago, other sets of dirty little feet strolled, scampered, trod and ambulated through here.
Imagine the sight of it. Imagine the sounds. Imagine the smell.

Suffice it to say that I was grateful for this brief moment where I could actually peek through the veils of time without a gelato stand calling my name.
Although, moments later I heard it again... "Karrennnnn... Kareennnnnn... you need a gelatoooooooo..."

hehheh.
Look Up in WonderSiena, Italy

OK, picture any one of a hundred movies where young-girl-meets-new-city.
(Or substitute young girl for boy, woman, man, you.)
He/she/you hits the streets for the first time, after dreaming of this moment for years and absolutely years!

You/she/he look up, burst into a brilliant smile and spins, giggling, round and round - watching the tall buildings whirl and spin like a merry-go-round.
You do this because it's fun.
You do this because your kid inside is over-the-moon thrilled and astounded and jump-up-and-down ecstatic to at long last be standing in a place you have dreamed of your. entire. life.

This is a still shot from that movie.
It Takes More Than GritSan Gimignano, Italy

True grit.
Who thought that one up?
Isn't that the stuff that gets into your shoe - the gunk they make all kinds of suds for so you can wash it off - the misplaced bit that lands in your salad at a high end restaurant and chips your tooth?
Why would having true of that be a good thing?
Perhaps some deep strength, a gallon (or more) of faith, a boatload of wisdom and discernment... and hey, focus is good - so's determination. Good words abound concerning the ability to withstand stuff.
Grit, not so much.
She always thought one's choice of words was interesting... and rather more important than most people realized.
The Crowning GloryFelton, CA

What can I say?
It's just the name that occurred to me when I looked up and saw this at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park in Felton, CA last week. The combo of fall maples and ancient redwoods was so stunning, everywhere I looked. But this arrangement was just so... crowning!

I wandered around in there for hours and hours on a rainy day, with the misty, muted light and glisteny surfaces everywhere. And the fresh, earthy, woodsy aroma... ahhhhhh.

Maybe you'll take a moment to take it all in today. Take a breath. Have a moment.
Let me know how that goes. :))
Making Tracks For HomeFelton, CA

If you follow the light
It's pretty clear
That the tracks head directly to there from here.
Time Passes, Cycles RepeatThe unfolding cycles of life and the immutability of it all
sometimes occupied her imagination for hours at a time.
At other times, it all coalesced into a single thought form.
Like a snapshot of eternity.
But with better captions.
If You Were The Road
If you were the road, what would you see?
What you would feel?
Would you feel less than everyone around you because you were so flat and low... and because they grew taller and taller and you didn't?
Or greater than all 'o them, because you were so dang long?
If you were a road, what would you think about?
(You'd have alot of time on your hands. Er, lines.)
Who would be the King of You?
How long does it take a chicken to cross you?

I was just wondering.
For Abe, It Was a Bust Salt Lake City, Utah

He was stiff.
Couldn't turn his head.
He wanted to see the swoops 'n swirls behind him...
but for Abe, all efforts were a bust.
