River of a Dream
A bit of imagination often spins a tale when I get in my photo "zone". It sure took over as I stood in this spot. When I let my eyes soften and gaze down, it was like some kind of giant primordial sea, er, mountain stream turtle was lurking about. In fact... I was standing on its back! We went on quite a ride for this shot.
It was AWEsome!

Yuba River, Sierra Nevadas
Sometimes around here I'm struck with the whole pioneer thing. Donner Party, the native peoples, the incredible spirit of all the people who were - and are - determined to find a way to live here. Because we really do sit in the middle of a wilderness that is farrrrr older than we can imagine. It is stunningly beautiful... and utterly uncompromising. Oh sure, we build our houses, have our Starbucks, schuss down our ski hills and all that. But we can never forget that we're so here on a hall pass. It's revokable. And we have to respect the power of these mountains or risk... everything. Not that living color doesn't represent that... but sometimes I like looking at it in a warm monochrome. Because that's the simplest way to see the complex layers of history, power, of order and quiet... and the stunning beauty of this high elevation world that lets me Be. I keep my hall pass close to my heart at all times.

Yuba River Dreams

This was from last July 4th... up in the Sierras, along I-80. Yuba River.
The granite there is old, wise and ancient.
I love hanging out there, 'cause sometimes I could swear I hear the faint tinkling of bells and whispers on the wind.

Magic much?
